About
About San Francisco Fashion
San Francisco Fashion is a research-led visual guide to the Bay Area's influence on how people dress: denim, counterculture, casualwear, sustainability, and new AI-assisted style.
Who Created This Site?
This project was created by Yana Welinder as an ongoing exploration of fashion influences from San Francisco and the wider Bay Area. The goal is to make the city's fashion history easier to see, cite, and build on.
What the Site Covers
- San Francisco fashion history, from Gold Rush workwear to AI-assisted design.
- Bay Area brands, including Levi's, Gap, Athleta, The RealReal, Everlane, Allbirds, Cuyana, Rothy's, and independent designers.
- Style movements connected to the city, including Haight-Ashbury counterculture, tech-casual dressing, athleisure, resale, and sustainable fashion.
Source Method
Pages favor official brand sources, patents, public historical references, and clearly labeled further reading. When a page makes an interpretive point, it tries to connect that point back to a visible source, a related guide, or a named brand.
